Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! My name is Rocio Rodriguez and I am glad to be your child's music teacher. I strongly believe that every child has the potential to succeed in music. Therefore, it is my goal to provide quality music instruction.

 What we offer at Jose Damian Elementary Music Department:
 * Music Theory and Sight-singing lessons. All students from Kinder thru 5th grade will be able to sing with a proper vocal technique. Also, we will be singing  new and exciting repetoire for our Winter and Spring Concerts.  

* Recorder Studies is offered to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. 

* Piano lab will be offered to all Jose Damian Students throughout the school year.

I would like to thank the following organizations for providing us grants to supplement our Music program:
*The El Paso Community Foundation Grant- Ten brand-new piano keyboards with headphones and keyboard stands.
*The Texas Music Educators Association Elementary Grant- Quaver's Music Curriculum Materials (DVD's with music history and theory information, access to Quaver's website, lesson plans, smart board activities, listening exercises, and more).

Ms. Rodriguez's Biography 

She holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Texas at El Paso (2007). She participated as a contestant for the Metropolitan Opera Regional Auditions in 2009. Mrs. Rodriguez is a member of the El Paso Choral Society Chamber Choir under the direction of Mr. Prentice Loftin. Her performances include several concerts with the El Paso, Juarez, and Las Cruces Symphony Orchestras. She is  a former Choir Director of the El Paso Youth Choir and the Da Vinci School. She participated at three opera productions with El Paso Opera which includes: Aida, Il Trittico, and Il Trovatore. Her teachers include Dr. Cynthia Jay (Choir Director of the Young El Paso Singers), Dr. Christopher Meerdink and Ms. Marciem Bazell. While she was a college student, she participated at several productions with the UTEP Music Theater Company and FA Music World. These include several Zarzuela productions She also performed in the opera Suor Angelica singing the main role (2006).As a professional soloist, Ms. Rodriguez participated at the Recital Series "Jóvenes Intérpretes" sponsored by the Mexican Institute of Fine Arts and the Juarez Museum of Art. She was a soprano soloist for three years at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and she performs regularly with the Struna Quintet and Frontera Choral Ensemble in weddings and special events. Mrs. Rodriguez has participated at several master classes with baritone Gordon Hawkins and former New England Conservatory faculty member, Dr. James McDonald. Ms. Rodriguez is very proud to serve as an Elementary Music Teacher and Choir Director at Canutillo Independent School District. She is married and has two beautiful children.
